ReAct Plus

If you’re unemployed you could be eligible to receive tailored support to get you into employment in the shortest time possible.

What is ReAct+?

ReAct+ offers tailored solutions which may include financial support, skills training and Personal Development Support to help remove barriers to employment, such as support with mental health, confidence building, language skills and more.

ReAct+ is a new grant programme that builds on the success of previous programmes and is part of the Welsh Government’s Young Person’s Guarantee.

Eligibility

To be eligible for ReAct+ support you must be aged 18 or over, be a resident in Wales and have a right to live and work in the UK.

You must also meet ONE of the below criteria:

  • Aged 18 or over and under formal notice of redundancy or
  • Aged 18 or over and have been made redundant or have become unemployed in the last 12 months or
  • Aged 18 or over and are an ex-offender or an offender serving a community sentence or
  • Aged 18-24 and not in education, employment or training

How does it work?

If you’re interested in how ReAct+ can help you please contact Working Wales to book an appointment.

A Working Wales adviser will provide expert careers information, advice and guidance and will explore all of the options available to you.

If ReAct+ is the right fit, an adviser will support you with your application and help you create an action plan. Once your eligibility has been verified and your plan is approved, your adviser will complete your final submission.

What is available to you through ReAct+?

The support you get is tailored specifically to you and your situation. All support is designed around getting you into employment in the shortest time possible.

ReAct+ can include:

  • Up to £1,500 to help you get the relevant skills you need – Vocational Training Grant
  • Up to £4,550 to help cover childcare/caring costs when you’re training
  • Up to £500 of personal development support to help remove barriers to employment – Personal Development Support
  • Mentoring and work experience
  • Up to £300 of extra support towards additional costs when you’re training, including travel and accommodation

How ReAct+ could support your next employer

Have a prospective employer in mind? Employers can access ReAct+ support to help with the cost of wages and job-related training for an eligible new recruit.

You must not have worked for 6 weeks or more since your redundancy or unemployment before they apply. You also must not start working for your new employer until the support is approved.

What support is available to an employer?

If you qualify under ReAct+, your new employer could get:

  • Up to £3000 towards your wages in your first year of your new job
  • Up to £1000 towards training you and getting you up to speed with the new job
  • If you’re between 18 and 24 and are not in employment, education or training, or you are a disabled person, your new employer could get another £1000 for taking you on
  • If you’re between 18 and 24 and are not in employment, education or training and you are also disabled, your new employer could get up to £2000 extra for employing you
Will my employer be eligible?

A prospective employer could apply if you:

  • Are 18 or over and live in Wales and:
  • Are under formal notice of redundancy or
  • Were made redundant within the last 12 months or
  • Became unemployed within the last 12 months for reasons other than redundancy or
  • Are between 18 and 24 years old and not in employment, education or training

The job you’re applying for must:

  • Be for at least 16 hours a week
  • Pay at least the national minimum wage
  • Last for at least 12 months
  • Not be paid for by other government funding

Important: Your new employer will not receive support under ReAct+ if you start working for them before the support package has been approved. They will also not receive support if you have worked for 6 weeks or more since your unemployment or redundancy and before they apply.

Other help and support

If you are unemployed and claiming benefits:

  • You can usually do some part-time study without it affecting your benefits. Check with Job Centre Plus before you start a course
  • Some courses, including courses to help improve reading, writing and number skills, are free
