Future Jobs Wales brings real labour market information into the classroom.

Discovering Future Jobs Wales
The resource was first introduced through partnership working with Careers Wales.
Porsha said, “We discovered it through our Careers Wales business engagement adviser, Sharon. She used to work at the school before she transferred across to Careers Wales. Sharon told us about the resource and asked if we’d had a look. And it went from there.”
Since then, it has become a valuable tool to support teaching and learning.
Bringing the curriculum to life
Future Jobs Wales supports key elements of the business studies curriculum. This includes economic trends and industry changes.
Porsha explained, “It is a really useful resource, particularly in relation to our new curriculum. Learners need to understand growing industries, declining industries and the locations of change. Also, sustainability is a huge new element of the GCSE.”
By giving access to this information in one place, Future Jobs Wales helps both teachers and learners engage more confidently with these topics.
“It is useful to point pupils in that direction and say, have a look on here. It is like a one-stop shop of information.”
Encouraging independent learning
The platform also supports more flexible, student-led approaches to learning in the classroom.
Porsha said “I would say it is a hugely useful resource for self study or flipped learning. This is where we want people to be able to find the information themselves and create an infographic or to do something with that information.
“Using Future Jobs Wales in this way encourages learners to explore career pathways independently. They will also develop research and critical thinking skills.”
Helping learners think about their future
Introducing learners to real labour market information can make a tangible difference to how they view their options.

Porsha said, “I think most of the learners have enjoyed using the tool. Many have been able to realise more about what careers and locations they would like to explore.”
