This page explains how Careers Wales uses Artificial Intelligence (AI) and how we protect your personal information. It is written for young people aged 14 and over.
Who we are
Careers Wales supports young people and adults across Wales to make choices about learning, training, and work. We provide impartial careers information, advice, and guidance.
What is AI?
Artificial Intelligence (AI) means computer systems that can complete tasks that usually need human thinking, such as understanding questions, summarising information, and producing written responses. AI does not make important decisions about you. A member of staff always checks the work.
Why Careers Wales uses AI
We use AI to improve the speed and quality of services, help staff understand information more easily, summarise guidance conversations, and provide online tools such as chatbots. People always stay in control.
Examples of how we use AI
This includes the Cari chatbot for post-16 learners, writing summary notes after guidance sessions, helping tailor CVs and summarising calls or online chats. AI is not used to score you or predict your behaviour.
What personal information may be used
This may include your name, contact details, and information you choose to share when using AI tools or speaking to an adviser. We only use information that is relevant and necessary.
Are people involved?
Yes. AI outputs are reviewed by Careers Wales staff. Humans make the final decisions.
Will I know when AI is being used?
Yes. We will always tell you when you are interacting with AI or when content has been generated using AI.
Is my data used to train AI?
No. Personal data is not used to train our AI systems.
Who can see my information?
Only Careers Wales staff who need the information to support you. Information is not shared with other organisations.
Keeping your information safe
We use secure systems, limit access to information, and train staff in data protection.
How long is information kept?
Information is kept only for as long as needed and in line with legal rules.
Your rights
You can ask to see your information, ask for corrections, ask us to stop using it in some situations, ask for deletion in some cases, and make a complaint.
