If you are over 16 you can choose to go to a local college.
In college you could:
- Meet lots of new people and make new friends
- Learn new skills
- Try new lessons
- Carry on with your reading and maths
- Gain a qualification

What can I do in college?
In college you might be able to study a course like Independent Living Skills course. On this course you might:
Learn more about using money
Get skills for work
Gain social skills
You could also choose a course where you will learn more about a type of work like:
Painting and decorating
Child care
Cooking
Animal care
How much time will I spend in college?
Colleges have courses that are full time or part time.
Full time course - this means that you might spend up to 4 days a week in college.
Part time course - this means that you might spend up to 1 or 2 days in college.
Will I get support in college?
If you have had support in school then you should get support when you go to college.
Your Careers Adviser and staff in school can help you with this.
How much will I get paid?
If you are 16-18 years old you may get Education Maintenance Allowance (EMA). This is up to £40 a week.
