Lowri’s story

Lowri

Careers support helped Lowri make a confident choice about her next steps.

Lowri, now 23 and living in Llanelli, first received support from Careers Wales after completing her Level 3 catering course. She wasn’t sure what to do next.

Lowri said, “I wasn’t sure whether to go into full‑time work or do another course in college.”

She heard about Careers Wales through her college lecturers. They put her in touch with Lara Bagagiolo, a careers adviser based on campus.

Lara helped Lowri look at two main choices, going back to college for Level 2 Travel and Tourism or getting a full-time job.

Making decisions

Lowri said, “In the first meeting we looked at what my options were. Lara suggested I do a pros and cons list to help me decide what would be the best choice for me.”

Lowri completed the list at home and emailed it to Lara. In their follow‑up meeting, they talked through each point in detail. Lara also used visualisation techniques to help Lowri notice her gut feelings about each route.

Through this process, Lowri realised she would feel happier returning to college.

She said, “I went to an open evening and spoke to the lecturers in Travel and Tourism to see if the course suited me. After that, I decided to apply for Level 2.”

Lara also helped her update her CV, including adding her recent work experience.

Looking ahead

Lowri has now reached the end of her course and is focusing on her next steps. She feels more confident about her goals. Right now, she is applying for apprenticeships to become a travel agent.

Lowri said, “The support has shown me I can set goals for myself and look for the next steps in my life.”

Throughout her journey, she has appreciated Lara’s continued support.

Lowri said, “Lara has been lovely to work with. She’s so supportive, and if I see her around college, I can always check in with her. She’s a wonderful person to be around.”

Her advice for others is simple, “Reach out to Careers Wales straight away. And while you’re waiting for your first appointment, look at the Careers Wales website to see what opportunities there are.”
