Work Experience

Physics Teacher, progressing to Acting Assistant Head of Science, Bigfield Academy, Bigtown, 2017 – present

Teaching physics to schoolchildren preparing for GCSEs and A-levels whilst managing a small team of teachers and teaching assistants has helped me to develop strong management and leadership skills. My experience of supervising in industry and more recently in successfully motivating and inspiring staff and students to achieve better results has broaden my knowledge of different teaching techniques and strategies for mentoring and improvement. I am responsible for creating and delivering engaging and interactive lessons that meet curriculum requirements. This involves planning lessons, keeping records, assessing and analysing work. The role also involves supervising other teachers and teaching assistants and developing a departmental mentoring programme for student and newly qualified teachers. Using my communication skills, I provide pastoral support to staff and students throughout their time at school.

Physics teacher, Brickhouse Comprehensive school, Northtown, 2014 – 2017
I devised and delivered a programme of physics education to pupils in key stages 3 and 4. This involved planning lessons according to the syllabus and the National Curriculum, keeping accurate records and assessing the work of students. Another mainstay of the role was to provide pastoral support to tutees in my tutor group on an ongoing basis. I led on a project that brought STEM employers into schools.

Twice weekly responsibility with a local Junior Air Cadets squadron. This involves planning and leading on group activities and managing budgets and accounts, involving strong organisational and data handling skills.

Electrotechnical Engineer, progressing to Supervising Engineer, Bigtown Aeronautics Ltd, 2008 – 2013

I designed electrical systems and tested electronic components for use in large aircraft.
