Example interview questions

A good way to prepare for an interview is to practice answering interview questions.

You should practice answering interview questions with someone you trust. Even if you aren’t asked the same questions it will still help you feel more confident.

Let's take a look at some questions you might be asked and how you could answer them.

Tell me what you like to do in your spare time

Think about some examples like:

  • I enjoy spending time with my family and friends as I get on well with people
  • Swimming keeps me fit and I like being active
  • I enjoy playing computer games. This has given me better IT skills
  • I enjoy playing sports as I like keeping fit and being part of a team
Tell me about a time when you have worked as part of a team

Think of examples like:

  • I was part of my school’s sports team. I helped with setting out the equipment
  • I have helped with running the garden in the school
  • I have worked with people on a school/college project
Tell me how you have helped someone recently

Think of examples like:

  • I help my parents around the house with chores
  • I help my grandparents to do their shopping
  • I babysit my little sister to help my mother
What work experience have you got?

Think of examples like:

  • I spent time with an employer on work experience (tell them more about this)
  • I volunteer (tell them more about this)
  • I have experience of helping family members with tasks around the house and garden
  • I have helped repair bicycles for friends and family
  • I help care for my grandparents including cleaning their house
Why would you be good at this job?

Think about:

  • What you need to do in the job and how you can show that you could do that type of work
  • What you are good at and how you can use that skill in the job. For example if it is a job where you would work with people tell them about how good you are with people and give examples
