Catrin’s story

Catrin holding her award

Catrin Leader is the Education Lead at Bute Energy. She has supported many schools across Powys and South Wales.

Catrin has provided careers and work-related experiences in mainstream high schools. She has also supported a pupil referral unit and an additional learning needs school.

A wide impact

Activities that Catrin has supported in these schools include:

  • Classroom presentations
  • Workshops
  • Assembly talks
  • Team building
  • Mock interviews
  • ‘Meet the employer’ events
  • ‘Girls in STEM’ (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) events
  • ‘Welsh in the Workplace’ events
  • Carousel events
  • High impact career fairs

Going above and beyond

Catrin uses interactive quizzes to engage with pupils and share career information. She raises awareness of net zero, green energy and sustainability.

Two of Catrin’s colleagues were invited to take part in mock interviews for Key Stage 4 pupils. They shared what they do in their roles, and the career opportunities at Bute Energy. It helped the pupils feel more confident and inspired about their future opportunities.

In 2024, Catrin supported a total of 18 schools across mid and south-central Wales.

Winning an award

Careers Wales gave Catrin a Valued Partner Award in January 2025. She won the award for Outstanding Personal Contribution.

It is an honour to have been nominated and to receive this award. It is always a pleasure and privilege to visit schools and support Careers Wales’ great work in showcasing the vast range of career options open to young people.

This is something we are really passionate about at Bute Energy. Colleagues are always eager to support educational activities and share their knowledge and expertise. I am looking forward to continuing our partnership with Careers Wales and keep supporting their events in the future.”

Catrin’s active relationship with schools has helped changed the attitudes of pupils and positively influence their career plans.

These events have helped the young people make valuable links between their lessons and the world of work.”
