As a small employer, finding time to support activities can be a challenge. This makes the scope of what Natasha Baker’s businesses have achieved so special.
Natasha is the owner of Kidslingo. The business teaches children up to the age of 11 French and Spanish. In the last year she has also opened Wibli Wobli Nursery, the first Welsh speaking nursery in Newport.
Bringing different subjects to life
Natasha supports teachers and helps learners understand the opportunities that studying French, Spanish and Welsh can offer. As a qualified lawyer, Natasha has also spoken to learners about studying law.
With experience of setting up and managing her own businesses, Natasha’s insight has also enriched other subjects. Business studies and Welsh Bacc learners have benefited from finding out about all aspects of running a business.
Flexibility and commitment
Natasha has supported schools across South East Wales. Learners in 5 different local authorities have benefited from a link with one of her businesses.
Support has been provided through:
- Face to face and online presentations
- Videos to support Career Discovery Week
- Attendance at school events
Welsh language work experience
Natasha's other business, Wibli Wobli Nursery also offer work experience placements. This is a great opportunity for learners who are studying Welsh and confident in speaking to children of nursery age to gain invaluable experience of the world of work.
Award winner
Kidslingo won the award for ‘Most Supportive Small Business’ at the Valued Partner Awards 2023.
Natasha said: “This award means a lot, especially as a small business. I feel really grateful that I get the opportunity to work with schools and make a difference for the students that I meet.”
Yvonne Carroll, business engagement adviser at Careers Wales, works with Natasha.
She said, “Natasha is always keen to share her passion for languages with learners. She also has valuable experience as a business owner to share. Despite the many demands on her time, she does whatever she can to support us. This makes her a worthy winner of this award.”
