Gwenno’s story

Gwenno holding her award

Gwenno Williams works for Gwynedd County Council (GCC). She is passionate about promoting careers in the social care sector.

Supporting schools and students

Gwenno has supported many activities including:

  • Created over 25 video resources during the pandemic
  • Taken part in employer carousel events
  • Delivered interactive workshops
  • Attended events for ALN schools, such as What Next events and careers festivals
  • Established a School Valued Partnership with Ysgol Tryfan in Bangor in 2023

Showcasing careers

In 2023, Gwenno led two workshops at the National Eisteddfod on the Careers Wales stand. These workshops highlighted jobs in the social care sector. She also invited a mental health social worker to the workshop to talk about mental health.

Promoting Welsh in the workplace

Gwenno stresses how useful Welsh is in the workplace, especially in social care. She recently joined the Welsh in the Workplace challenge.

This project includes:

  • Making training materials for new social care workers about using Welsh at work
  • Developing a lesson plan and an employer presentation to support the challenge

Going above and beyond

Gwenno is always on the lookout for new ways to promote social care careers. In 2024, she began arranging site visits to care settings, such as residential care homes. It is an opportunity for students to experience firsthand insight into the sector.

Award winner

Careers Wales gave Gwenno a Valued Partner Award in January 2025. She won the award for Outstanding Personal Contribution.

A small but very important part of my day to day role is my work with Careers Wales. Receiving this award was very unexpected but very welcomed. I love going around schools and helping young people. There’s so much support out there to empower individuals to make decisions. Giving young people time and being able to help them along their journey means the world.”

Gwenno Williams, Gwynedd County Council (GCC)

Gwenno never lets me down. She is always up for a challenge and constantly thinks of new ways to inspire young people. She absolutely deserves this recognition.”
