The company has supported schools across Wales through various events.
The Big Green Week of Action
The Big Green Week of Action is the UK's biggest event for community action for climate and nature.
EDF Renewables delivered a bespoke presentation to Year 7 at Birchgrove Comprehensive School with a focus on green practices. During the talk they highlighted the skills and qualities they value in employees. They also talked about career opportunities in the sector.
Inspiring learners
The company has worked with Careers Wales for many years.
Their support has included:
- Creating content for school resources
- Highlighting the role of science and technology to help net-zero goals
- Encouraging learners to discuss job roles in solar, wind, and hydro energy
They also take part in Careers Wales events and provide support during mock interview sessions.
In addition, EDF Renewables worked on Career Discovery for Primary Schools 2023. They produced content highlighting how science and technology are being used to support their net zero agenda.
Winning an award
Careers Wales presented EDF Renewables UK with a Valued Partner Award in November 2023. They won the Best Supporter of the Net Zero Agenda.
Ffion Davis, Welsh external affairs manager, said, “Winning this award was a massive surprise and a huge honour. We feel privileged to have the opportunity to work with Careers Wales and to go to schools and talk about all the varied renewable energy roles.
“We want to inspire young learners to be that future workforce to get to net zero.”
Careers Wales business engagement adviser, Andrea John, works with Ffion. Andrea said, “It is always a pleasure to work with Ffion from EDF Renewables.
“Ffion is passionate about educating young people on the importance of sustainability for the benefit of future generations.
“Through her work with Careers Wales, pupils have had an introduction into how science and technology are being used to support EDF Renewables net zero agenda and have gained an understanding of the career opportunities available within the sector now and in the future.”
