Morlais is a renewable energy project that focuses on tidal power. They work with schools to make learners aware of jobs and opportunities for local people.
Supporting schools
Fiona Parry is the skills and training officer at Morlais. She has helped inspire young people and support schools. Since 2023, Morlais have supported many activities including:
- Careers carousel events
- Workshops
- The Careers Wales ‘What Next? Choose Your Future’ event
- The ‘Choose Your Future’ careers fair in 2023
- Morlais is also a School Valued Partner with Ysgol Uwchradd Caergybi
A teacher event
In summer 2024, Fiona led an event for teachers at Ysgol Uwchradd Caergybi. Over 50 teachers watched the presentation.
During this event, Fiona explained:
- The aims of Morlais
- Local career opportunities in renewable energy
- How to link lessons to real-world jobs
Fiona gave this presentation again at an event for teachers from all schools on Ynys Môn. She aimed to help them understand opportunities in North Wales' growing industries.
Current projects
Currently, Fiona is helping GCSE students design and build a portable turbine. Fiona plans a visit to a local sub-station to see how tidal energy produces electricity.
Fiona is a fluent Welsh speaker. She always highlights the importance of Welsh as an extra skill in the workplace.
Award winners
Morlais won the Valued Partner Award in January 2025 for Best Newcomer.
